Global Scans · Responsible Consumption and Production · Weekly Summary

In September 2015, 193 world leaders agreed to 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development. If these Goals are completed, it would mean an end to extreme poverty, inequality and climate change by 2030.
Goal 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.

  • [New] Experts expect global production of SAF to rise substantially by 2030. Carbon Credits
  • [New] Efforts to slow deforestation - including in the mighty carbon sink that is the Amazon rainforest - have helped, but most countries will have to make major adjustments to their energy production and consumption practices over the coming years. New Atlas
  • [New] With further purchasing power increases, due to high wage growth and easing inflation, we expect private consumption to continue expanding in 2025. / Germany ABN AMRO Bank
  • [New] The future of agricultural modelling will not be a competition between AI and traditional theory, but a synergistic partnership, one that drives smarter, more efficient, and more sustainable livestock production worldwide. All About Feed
  • [New] Line Traction won a gold award for innovation at Agritechnica 2025, and it is expected to see production soon propelling Aebi's Terratrac tractor, aimed at use on steep slopes. / Germany New Atlas
  • [New] Fresh analysis for the WEO-2025 maps the new geography of demand onto the distribution of global energy resources, showing that, by 2035, 80% of global energy consumption growth occurs in regions with high-quality solar irradiance. IEA
  • [New] Mapping the new geography of demand onto the distribution of global energy resources reveals that, by 2035, 80% of energy consumption growth occurs in regions with high-quality solar irradiation. IEA
  • [New] Renewables will become the largest global electricity source by 2030, accounting for nearly 45% of production. Monevator
  • [New] If Europe achieves its production targets, the total fuel savings could cut up to 200 million tonnes of CO2 by 2035. Carbon Credits
  • [New] Beyond 2050, retail will transform into a conscious consumption ecosystem where transactions become secondary to value creation, sustainability, and human fulfilment. Futurist Speaker on AI Leadership, Future of Work, Futu
  • [New] Manufacturing faced disruption as Honda halted production at its Celaya, Guanajuato, plant due to a semiconductor shortage affecting its supply of Nexperia chips from China. Mexico News Daily
  • [New] China will issue general export licenses for rare earths, gallium, germanium, graphite, and antimony-materials essential for chipmaking, battery production, and a broad swath of industrial components found in vehicles, electronics, and renewable energy infrastructure. Grand Pinnacle Tribune
  • [New] Economically, the increased investment in domestic fabs, while boosting local economies and creating jobs, could lead to higher chip prices due to less optimized global production. FinancialContent
  • [New] Fire Maple lists consumption at 3.6 oz (102 g) per hour, so it will eat up a 4-oz gas canister in just over an hour and an 8-oz canister in just over two. New Atlas
  • [New] By 2035, AI personalization will have evolved from recommending products to managing a significant portion of household consumption autonomously. Futurist Speaker on AI Leadership, Future of Work, Futu
  • [New] The industry energy consumption could double by 2026, motivated by AI and other sectors, threatening decarbonization targets under the Paris Agreement, which include a 53% reduction in data-centre emissions by 2030 and net-zero goals for the AI sector. Nature
  • [New] The aviation fuel ecosystem of 2030 will look fundamentally different from today's linear model, incorporating diverse feedstocks, multiple production pathways, and digital tracking systems that provide unprecedented transparency. Futurist Speaker on AI Leadership, Future of Work, Futu
  • [New] Achieving net-zero by 2050 requires tripling annual demand, and an estimated 300 new mines will be required within the next decade to support battery production alone. Planet2050
  • [New] SAF production capacity could grow from less than 0.5 billion liters today to over 30 billion liters by 2030 under optimistic scenarios. Futurist Speaker on AI Leadership, Future of Work, Futu
  • [New] The good news is that many textile experts believe that use of AI in textile mills will reduce waste and increase worker productivity enough so that the U.S. textile industry, including in North Carolina, will increase its competitiveness and boost its production and sales. Salisbury Post
  • [New] Singapore now sources food from 187 countries and regions, up from 140 two decades ago, while also strengthening local production as a buffer against disruption. ST
  • [New] The global drive for electrification - which IRENA projects will account for 52% of final energy consumption by 2050-demands a smarter, more resilient grid, a feat achievable primarily through advanced digitalization and Artificial Intelligence. SolarQuarter
